Pupils to benefit from computerisation project

Public basic and junior high schools in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana received 6 624 laptops for use in support of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) teaching and learning programmes.

The laptops are expected to benefit some 30 000 pupils in 275 basic and junior high schools in the region thereby boosting Ghana's technology education.

The region's deputy regional minister, Eric Opoku handed over the laptops and other accessories to the district and municipal chief executives in the region at a ceremony over the weekend for onward distribution to beneficiary schools.

    The Basic School Computerisation Project

The distribution of the laptops form part of the Basic School Computerisation Project, is currently being executed by government, through the Ministry of Education.

Under the project, 60 000 laptops are to be given to basic schools across the country to facilitate ICT teaching and learning. The laptops are assembled in Ghana by Rlg Communications and funding of the project is provided by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Opoku said government was leaving nothing to chance in ensuring the highest quality of education for both teachers and pupils.

The regional director of education, Dr. George Adjei-Hene commended government for the gesture.

The Brong Ahafo region becomes the fifth region to benefit from the project initiated by late president Evans Atta Mills.
