Madonna causes stir with Malawi pressA number of local and foreign journalists sustained injuries on Tuesday, 31 March, 2009 when Malawi police officers descended on them in an attempt to protect US popstar Madonna who is currently in Malawi. She is in the country to adopt a second Malawian orphan. Madonna was visiting Home of Hope children's home in the border district of Mchinji where she adopted her first Malawian child David Banda. “They blocked the road leading to the centre with some of the vehicles which were part of Madonna's convoy,” said a photo journalist working with one of the dailies in the country. He said the security officers barred the media and local villagers who were curious to see the popstar. “Journalists tried to reason with them but when they failed to agree they ended up clashing, leading to injuries...as the police were using extensive force to push away the journalists,” he said. While villagers were booing the police for their conduct, Madonna could be seen from afar as she was being shown around the orphanage.
