ABI's recent appointments
Trevor Brand has been appointed as general manager of ABI's channel marketing department. He has been employed with ABI since 1987, most recently as general manager of the Durban operation. Trevor holds a B.Com. (Honours) degree in business management and is currently studying towards an MBA.
Craig Harris has been appointed marketing manager for ABI's grocery channel. He joined the company almost 10 years ago, and held various positions, of which the latest, national account manager for Massmart and Petroleum Food Marts. Craig holds an IMM diploma in marketing, participated in the management advancement programme through the University of Witwatersrand and is in the process of completing his MBA through the same institution.
Andre Bosman has been appointed in the role of marketing manager: on-premise in the newly created channel marketing department. Previously, Andre was general manager at the Benrose plant for nine years and has been with the company for 19 years in total.
Deon Myburgh has been appointed general manager in Durban. Deon holds a CIS qualification. He was previously general manager of the country region, which included the Vaal, Klerksdorp and Welkom plants, as well as their two depots in Bethlehem and Mafikeng. Under his leadership, the plants managed to capture volume growth in a relatively flat market and improve annual profits.
Len Swart has been appointed general manager for the country region and will be based in Welkom. He has been with ABI for 13 years, and held various positions in the sales and distribution division. Most recently, he played a major role in building capacity in national accounts. Len holds a B.Com. degree in industrial psychology.
Lesley Lawrence has been appointed district manager at the Klerksdorp plant. He joins ABI from Afrox, where he was the strategic operations and logistics manager. Prior to this, he worked at South African Breweries. Lesley holds a national diploma in logistics as well as a diploma in marketing and finance management from Newport University. He is currently studying towards a B.Tech. degree.
George Chirwa joined the marketing services department as market execution manager. Part of his responsibility will be to develop in-house expertise to actively drive ABI's execution standards and best practise to new levels. George holds a B.Sc. (Honours) degree, as well as a MBA from Bond University.
Daan van der Merwe was recently appointed to the position of regional general manager - southern Gauteng. He joined the company 27 years ago and held several different positions during this time. More recently, he managed the Midrand and Pretoria facilities and was previously appointed to general manager: customer strategy.
Hannes Prinsloo has been appointed district manager at Rustenburg. He joined ABI in 1994 as sales representative in Midrand and has since progressed through the ranks and held various management positions in the company.
Vuka Khumalo has been appointed to the newly created role of emerging market manager effective from 1 September 2004. He joins head office from the Devland operation where he held the post of HR Consultant since his appointment with the company on 1 January 2001.
Jacques Rousseau has been appointed as national account manager for the Shoprite group effective from 1 October 2004. He joins head office from the Midrand operation, where he was employed as channel manager. Jacques holds a B.Com. degree in marketing.
Tania Botha was recently appointed as national account manager for Massmart and petroleum outlets. She joined the company in June 2003 as key account manager and holds a national diploma in retail management.
Tamarrah Achari recently joined ABI as regional finance manager at head office. She holds a B.Com. and B. Acc. degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and joined Deloitte & Touche in 1999 to complete her articles.
Gary York has been appointed as district manager at ABI's Phoenix operation in Durban. Since joining the company over two years ago, he has held the position of district manager at the Klerksdorp plant. Gary holds a MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, as well as a M.Sc. Civil Engineering degree.
Gesh Nayagar joins ABI as category manager at head office. She holds a B.Com. Marketing degree from the University of Port Elizabeth, as well as a post graduate diploma in marketing from the University of South Africa.
Simo Masondo has been appointed as human resources consultant at ABI's Devland and Benrose operations. He has been with the company for almost two years and was previously human resources specialist at head office. Simo holds a B.Soc.Sc. degree from the University of Natal, post graduate diploma in human resource management from the University of Natal (Pietermaritzburg campus), diploma in labour law from The Graduate Institute of Management and Technology and a MBA from Potchefstroom University.
Jeenie Mahadeo was appointed quality assurance manager at ABI's Devland operation. She was previously employed as the plant chemist at the company's Midrand plant. Jeenie holds a national diploma in food technology from ML Sultan Technikon in Durban.
Walter Mzizi has been appointed district manager at ABI's Pretoria plant. He joined ABI in January 2003 as executive assistant to the managing director. Prior to this, he worked at South African Breweries and Unilever where he held management positions in the sales and distribution fields. Walter holds a B.Com (Honours) degree and is in his final year of study towards a MBA.
