Greg Maloka- It's never too late to give backKaya FM's MD Greg Maloka turned 41 on 27 November and Greg decided instead of spending his birthday alone, he wanted to share it with those who are most vulnerable in our communities. The Kaya FM team decided to surprise the MD with a four day soiree for Greg and the children around Johannesburg. These four days were about giving back to the community, something which the station and Greg are passionate about. The idea around the four day experience was to give children the opportunity that life does not begin and end within the 10km radius in which they reside in the townships. It takes just one experience to change a life for a young mind to want to achieve and reach its best potential. Kaya FM is Home of the Afropolitan, not just a positioning statement but a way and outlook of life. Being Afropolitan means being aware of issues happening around the world and at home. It also means being informed, being able to adapt to change and definitely not afraid of trying new things. This is what KayaFM was planting in the young minds of the children. Giving back is not only about the physical touch but also about feeding the power of knowledge to those that need it most. Greg's plan was to make just one day special for the children. The team made his special day a reality for 70 children, on Monday Lakeview primary school children had a chance to see and enjoy a 3D movie at Sandton City. It was pretty exciting for most of them as it was a first time experience. Most of the children have never been in Sandton City before, it was a dream come true. Their inquisitive minds and their great attitude was just amazing, this was proof that the children are the future. To echo Madiba's words "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". On Tuesday KayaFM gave the Power Park Zone 6 children an opportunity to experience nature at the Rhino & Lion Park. The exciting experience continued by on Wednesday by taking Mvelaphanda Primary School learners from Tembisa on the Red Bus City Tour to experience the City of Gold, courtesy of City sightseeing and Joburg Tourism Tour. The field trio moved to Lilies Leaf Farm for an insightful and educational tour of one of Joburg's iconic historical landmarks, to learn about our past. On Thursday the children from Barona Children's Home were given an opportunity to go on a helicopter ride with the Kaya FM MD and had a birds-eye view over Johannesburg and perhaps see life from a different view. Greg Maloka was very happy and it was an emotional four days for him. He said that there is nothing that makes him happy than seeing the children happy. One of the moments that stood out for him was when a young boy said to him "Thank you Mr Maloka and God bless you", he has been told these words before but this time they were special, he said.
