It's not just music, it's about mastery with Jazzuary on Kaya FM 95.9

It's the annual celebration of all things jazz on Kaya FM 95.9 as we present the Jazzuary Masterclass 2017. Building on the success of our 2016 presentation, we continue to elevate the music that defined the golden age of jazz and the resurgence of the new school. January, or Jazzuary as we have coined it, reflects on the rich musical history of the ever-evolving genre.
It's not just music, it's about mastery with Jazzuary on Kaya FM 95.9

The Jazzuary Masterclass is a presentation of interviews and live discussions across Kaya’s daytime shows that will enlighten, and facilitate an enriching conversation about the best in jazz. This year the masters of the craft take us through their journeys and sprinkle their genius through the masterclasses on www.Jazzuary.FM. For us, however, we want the jazz masterclass to be a conversation between peers exchanging information, stories and memories. The people in the room have different levels of experience and knowledge but it’s a give-and-take situation.

"The Kaya FM Live and Unplugged Sessions, which are hosted at Kaya House, are filmed live so that you can always go back to some of your favourite moments, exclusive to Kaya FM. This Jazzuary, we highlight some of the best jazz performances we’ve had on the Kaya Stage. Look out for exclusive performances from Gregory Porter, Lwanda Gogwana, Afrika Mkhize, Somi, Kyle Sheperd, Rebirth Of Cool, and Spha Mdlalose,” says Nkosinathi Mbelu, Kaya FM’s Music Manager.

Experience the genius of band leader and composer Mandla Mlangeni who has performed with many celebrated local and international artists. Mlangeni grew up in Soweto, Johannesburg, and is a young, vibrant graduate of music composition from the University of Cape Town. He writes and performs music with his band, The Tune and Recreation Committee (TRC), the brass band, Native Groove Collective (NGC), and the newly established Amandla Freedom Ensemble based in Johannesburg.

A host of handpicked jazz aficionados will share how they have carved their place in music history and future, amongst them author Struan Douglas, T-music owner Peter Tladi, and pianist Nomfundo Xaluva. Jazzuary delves into the art, lifestyle and fashion that has been influenced by the music and the feeling jazz has created in modern society.

The airwaves will be crisp with the music, fervour and nostalgia that only such a classical genre can espouse. For some, it will be an audio adventure and for others a refining of a rich musical history for all to enjoy. Listen to Kaya FM 95.9 as we present Afropolitan music and visit the Jazzuary.FM website for the exclusive interviews.
