She obtained a ND: Public Relations Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, followed by an additional year's studies in Business Management (cum laude), Media Study (cum laude) and Research Methodology. She also studied project management via the X-Pert Group, a registered Project Management Institute (PMI) Education Provider and is a Cape Wine Academy student.
She started her career with New Media Publishing, appointed as Traffic Controller for fourteen publications and coordinating advertorials for several of these. She continued her career in the publishing industry at Van Schaik Electronic as Product and Promotions consultant being responsible for the project management, promotion and distribution of products. At the Laser Transport Group she coordinated the national marketing and communication efforts for AGS Frasers International Removals, Allied Pickfords Removals SA, Pickfords Worldwide Removals, Stuttaford Van Lines and Sandton Office Removals. Ielanda was employed as General Manager for the South African Brandy Foundation for six years, being responsible for the organisation's projects, communication planning and executing, event management and all office administration. In 2011 she received a National Merit Award from the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs (SA) honouring her service and promotion to the South African Brandy Industry.
