My qualifications consist of a Public Relations Diploma accredited through PRISA as well as a Brand Management Diploma acquired at Vega Orbit (Brand Communication School) in Cape Town.
I've worked within the media industry throughout my career starting at Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism as a Communications Intern for more than a year doing extensive media related events, conferences, radio interviews, writing of press releases and articles for the internal newsletter. Thereafter I set out to the diverse city of Cape Town to further my experience and landed an Assistant to the Project Manager position at Media24 Woman's Magazine Division looking after titles like Sarie, Fairlady, Leef, True Love etc.
Here I came to realize the pressures and deadline driven environment of the media industry first-hand and assisting the sales team with Mock-ups, doing costings and sourcing and packaging promotional gifts relevant to each title was some of my duties. Updating the website of each title together with organising one-on-one sessions at the Mount Nelson Hotel with Editors and prospective clients was key to securing the sale of the different supplements of these titles.
The experience gained at the magazines put me in good stead for the next position I held which was a Marketing Co-ordinator at Die Burger which opened up so many doors to challenge myself daily to become more and do my best with each project I encountered. I worked extensively with events yet again but more sponsorship events with trade exchange agreements with various radio, magazine and festivals making prioritising and planning key to successfully implementing each task. Bookings of advertisements had to be done way in advance and negotiating minimal advertising space to get the most exposure and brand presence at festivals and events was what made this position so vital to my career growth. Attention to detail and professionalism was of utmost importance as you ultimately become the "face" of the brand. Launches, subscriber events, multitude of festivals, school related events and workshops, outdoor club and movie club were among the responsibilities within my portfolio.
Being born in PE it was always my plan to return to my hometown which materialised at the start of 2012 where I joined the company Pure Voice in May as a sales executive. I've come to realise that sales and communicating with Directors and MD's of companies is like second nature. My most recent employer was a mobile application company called Qbsta whereby I focused on identifying, sourcing and secure meetings with potential clients/partners in both Johannesburg and Pretoria. This app catered to the student market aged 18 to 24 year olds and allowed them to download and subscribe to this app to redeem various deals available.
I'm excited to utilize the new skills and contacts I've accumulated during my time there at putting it to even better use in an industry that lies so dear to my heart which is the marketing and media industry.
