International SOS opens office in Ghana

International SOS, the global medical and security services company on Friday, 15 February 2013, celebrated the inauguration of its new office facilities in the Airport Residential in Accra, Ghana.

"Increasing globalisation has allowed organisations to send more and more employees abroad, often into challenging locations, as they expand their operational footprint. As a result, organisations are also becoming more aware of their duty of care responsibilities to their employees." says Bruno Oudart, International SOS GM West African Territories.

The new offices will support the International SOS client-centric approach, helping companies and governments to mitigate medical and security risks faced by their employees deployed within Africa. The Accra office will service the needs of west and central African countries.

Extensive mining and construction projects are attracting many South African and international investors and contractors into the region. Ghana itself, is currently the second largest producer of gold in Africa.

"Ghana is a key location for International SOS, as many South African companies are sending their travelling and expatriate workforce into this region. International SOS' Ghana office will house a diverse and skilled pool of specialists, as an increasing number of medical and security teams are needed to assist client businesses proactively with assessing and managing the risks that their global workforces face," says Oudart.

International SOS' Johannesburg and Paris Assistance Centres are the global hubs for co-ordinating routine medical, security and travel advice services across time zones and regions within sub-Saharan Africa. The teams are experienced in carrying out thousands of interventions and evacuations each year.
