Transformation or BEE point scoring?
With companies so avidly trying to improve their employment equity at senior management levels candidates are lured to take on senior roles that they are not ready for with promises of training. However, many companies don't have the resources to implement such training programmes and the unequipped candidates ultimately often flounder in these positions.
While the companies may gain new business as a result of their improved BEE ranking, their business, and the general economy, suffers in the long run if unqualified staff are unable to deliver.
Is this simply the price to be paid to accelerate transformation in the industry?
