Johnnie Walker, in partnership with Kaya FM, presents The Gentlemen's Wager.
We are often asked what the differences are between a wager and a bet, its simple: a wager is an honourable agreement between two respectable opponents. It's about being inspired enough to pursue something you've always wanted to own - an item that goes beyond monetary value but which you are prepared to move the earth to own.

So, in the spirit of the gentlemanly wager, Greg Maloka, Managing Director of Kaya FM, the home to Afropolitan, posed a wager to his friend and Gallery Momo owner, Monna Mokoena: if Greg could successfully put together a photo exhibition of 10 photographs of Monna's coveted vintage Mercedes Benz, at Gallery Momo, and attract 500 people to the exhibition, the car would be his.
Greg's journey, in his pursuit of this classic car, has seen him work closely with commercial photographer, Siphiwe Mhlambi, owner at African Skies Media, an innovative, creative photography and visual solutions business in Johannesburg. Mhlambi acted as a mentor to Greg, in the technical aspects of photography, to take inspiring pictures that will tell a story. "Greg and I agreed from the onset when he asked me to mentor him, he would treat this project as a professional photographer.
"Greg is a natural and because he is passionate about the art of photography and has a great artistic eye. But what I admired the most about him through this journey was his willingness to put in the hours in order to reap the rewards. All his hard work and effort meant that the only problem we had at the end of the week was for him to choose his final 10 pieces to be exhibited because he had taken so many incredible images," said Mhlambi.
"The idea of being part of this global Johnnie Walker campaign, for me, has been a very rewarding and enriching journey," commented Maloka. He said the Johnnie Walker Striding Man to him epitomised the values that needed to be instilled in young men today. "Investing time and passion in the pursuit of what you want for your life is an admirable quality to have as an Afropolitan."
The exhibition takes place on Friday, 13 February, at 6pm, at Gallery Momo on 7th Avenue, Parkhurst, Johannesburg. His exhibition opens to the public from 11-13 February where his pieces can be viewed from 9am to 6pm. All guests must sign a visitors' register during these times to prove to Monna that Greg is a worthy opponent.
Listeners can also vote for their favourite art piece by logging onto www.kayafm.co.za and could stand a chance to win access to the exclusive Johnnie Walker and Kaya FM event on Friday, 13 February 2015, at Gallery Momo, with a partner. The winner will also receive a canvas printed photo taken by Greg that will be up at the gallery and, of course, a bottle of rare Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Listeners must go to www.kayafm.co.za for more details regarding the competition. T&Cs apply.
